Happy Independence Day 2017!

In Philadelphia, PA, 241 years ago this month, a group of proud and feisty men representing the 13 colonies of “The New America” claimed their independence from England. On their courageous and sturdy shoulders rested this brand new entity called the United States of America, and our beloved country was born. In universal time, 241 years is a very small number; however, in terms of our lives and the good fortune American citizens associate with living in this magnificent country, it’s an excellent number indeed.

Universal Brotherhood Movement, Inc. is a quintessential American creation, also founded on the principles of good faith and right action for all concerned. As an international organization, UB is represented well with a world-wide membership comprised of people from every culture and all religions.  This is definitely an asset to all of us as we endeavor to become a resource to everyone to whom we minister, with a belief in treating all who cross our paths with respect, acceptance and an open mind.

On Tuesday, July 4, as you enjoy your picnics and family parties, please stop and reflect on the great good fortune that’s at the heart of the celebration. Should you be in the presence of our national anthem, please pause to remember (and this actually means taking your hats and caps off, gentlemen, and standing at attention) as you reflect on the sacrifices made by all those countless men and women who have gone to battle for the freedoms we enjoy. In terms of lives lost and lives forever changed by the scars of war, 241 becomes an infinitely more important number. A number imbued with faith, courage, pride and a deep trust in the principles upon which this country was founded.

If you are an American citizen, whether born in this country or as a naturalized citizen, claim your pride at being an American and throughout the 4th of July festivities, reflect on how you can now, in 2017 and beyond, be an honorable resource to our Nation. As the fireworks blast into the night sky, recall the words to America the Beautiful:

“O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountains majesties

Above the fruited plain,

America, America! God shed his grace on thee,

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!”

As always, thank you for your dedicated service to UB, and thank you for being a part of the love, healing and growth of our wonderful country, the United States of America.

Just as “God shed his grace on our country,” your presence graces and enhances every aspect of Universal Brotherhood and the work we do in the world.

Blessings to you and to all those you hold dear,

Rosemary
