What is the Universal
Brotherhood Movement, Inc.?
Universal Brotherhood Movement, Inc., is
an association composed of persons who have requested recognition of
their independent ministries and have been officially ordained by U.B.M.,
Inc. Each minister names his or her ministry and conducts it in the
manner they deem fitting and proper.
U.B.M., Inc., was Incorporated in 1976 as
a not-for-profit corporation to satisfy the legal requirements for
persons practicing spiritual service.
How does Universal Brotherhood
Movement, Inc. work?
Persons who are committed
to expressing their lives by serving others may request ordination
through Universal Brotherhood. A minister ordained by U.B.M., Inc., may
legally officiate at weddings, baptisms, funerals, services of
dedication and make ministerial hospital calls, subject to local civil
regulation.
Association with
Universal Brotherhood as a minister does not alter one's affiliation or
commitment to his or her church or other religious institution. One may
continue to be active in any faith or philosophy.
BE TRUE TO YOUR
INNER GUIDANCE
Who are Universal
Brotherhood Movement Ministers?
Persons ordained by U.B.M.
Inc., are dedicated, spiritually oriented individuals who desire to
reach out to others in unconditional and non-judgmental love.
What are Universal
Brotherhood Movement's Doctrines?
There is no required belief in any
particular doctrine or creedal statement. U.B.M., Inc. considers each
person as an individual who is on her or his own "path" - a
unique expression of Life. Non-judgment and unconditional love are
typically recognized by ministers.
Where do I Fit In ?
If you have wondered how you might live a
life of Love and Service without subscribing to someone else's belief
structure, ministry recognized by U.B.M., Inc., may be the way for you.
How are Ministers
Chosen?
U.B.M., Inc. considers
and acts upon each request for ordination. There is no solicitation or
promoting for applicants for ordination. Individuals must request
ordination and recognition of their ministry.
What are the
requirements for Requesting Ordination?
A person should accept
the Oneness of all Life. During the ordination ceremony, tile applicant
is asked to affirm, "I HEREBY DEDICATE MY
LIFE TO THE BROTHERHOOD OF MANKIND."
A biographical/philosophical
statement is required with the application. This is an autobiographical,
spiritual bio-sketch delineating your personal path and Your purpose
in requesting ordination. The essay can be a rich and expanding experience.
Take time to allow it to express your uniqueness. Please do not send
printed brochures, workshop or seminar flyers, or newsletters you produce.
Your personal statement is the key requirement.
Along with your
bio-sketch, a current photo, and a data form that contains a formal
request for ordination (please fill out completely and legibly) are
submitted to the administrative office.
When your application is
processed, the Minister/Director nearest you will call you for a
personal interview and arrange for your ordination. Your guests are
welcome to attend the ceremony.
Where do
Ministers Ordained by Universal Brotherhood Movement, Inc. get their
Training?
Since Universal
Brotherhood makes no attempt to influence or change an individual's
philosophical beliefs, no seminary is required. Each applicant is
recognized and honored for their own unique ministry. Although many
persons ordained hold advanced educational degrees, each applicant is
awarded a Bachelor of Divinity degree at ordination in recognition of
life work/experience.
How is Universal
Brotherhood Movement, Inc. Supported?
A dues structure is
required to maintain U.B.'s Administrative office and provide a
newsletter. This also keeps each minister in an "active"
status. Each minister supports his/her own ministry. It is expected that
each candidate for the ministry will provide funds to cover the expense
of application, processing, enrollment and the ordination ceremony
itself. Within the United States, a $95 ordination fee plus the first
year dues, $40, are required ($135 total). Outside of the United States,
a $95 ordination fee plus the first year dues of $55 (due to higher
mailing costs) are required ($150 total). The annual dues are payable
on the anniversary of your ordination.
Remember,
your
PRESENCE is of great value
right
where you are.
When You decide to apply
for ordination, send a current photo (head and shoulders, passport size),
your bio-sketch, your completed data form (they
become part of your U.B.M., Inc. file so you may want to make a copy
for your own files), with a check or money order to:
